Honouring Nic: a family's beatiful tribute that will help change the future for women everywhere
"Some people move through the world leaving a trail of light behind them. Nic was one of those people" shares her niece and goddaughter, Morgan.
In August 2025, Nic was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer and, heartbreakingly, died in September after a short and brave fight, before she had the chance to begin treatment.
"Nic was one of life's true rays of sunshine. Her smile could light up any room, her laughter was infectious, and her warmth made everyone around her feel loved and welcome. She had a heart of gold and brought light and laughter wherever she went," Morgan continues.
She filled every role in her life with love, strength and kindness. Her absence is felt in every part of the world - in every smile, every family moment and every quiet memory where they still feel her presence.
Since losing Nic, her husband Colin and their family have channelled their grief into something deeply meaningful: a commitment to honour her memory by supporting ovarian cancer research, so that other families might be spared the pain of losing someone so loved.

A Life Well Versed
During their nearly 40 years of marriage - an anniversary they would've celebrated this June - Colin wrote poems for Nic for every birthday, anniversary and Valentine's Day Card. Words of quiet reflection, love and devotion. Words he wrote only for her. Words she treasured.
Over the years, Colin saved more than a decade's worth of these cards. Now, with the immense tenderness, he has gathered them all into A Life Well Versed - a book that is both a love letter and a legacy. It invites readers to experience the poems exactly as Nic did, with moments of affection, humour and deep connection.
Each poem is paired with a piece of Nic's own artwork, creating a beautiful collection that reflects both of their talents and the touching connection they shared: his words, her art, their life woven together.
To launch the book, Colin hosted a fundraising poetry evening at the Bay and Bellflower florist and cafe, owned by their daughter, Cara. Surrounded by blooms, memories and community, he read aloud the words he once wrote for Nic alone. Now, he shares them with the world to help fund the research that could change the future for women everywhere.

Walking, running, reading, remembering
The family's dedication doesn't stop there:
- Colin and Cara completed this year's Walk in Her Name challenge together, walking an incredible 100km through March
- Morgan ran the Brighton Marathon in Nic's honour - and in an incredible 3 hours and 43 minutes!
- and in May, just after World Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day, Colin will host an awareness event as his workplace - where colleages who never met Nic feel as though they knew her, through the stories he's shared.
Together, their efforts have already raised more than £5,600 in Nic's name.
Every step, every poem, every conversation, every donation is a testament to the love they carry for her - and their determination to ensure that no other family has to face a loss like theirs.

A legacy of light
By supporting Ovarian Cancer Action, Nic's family is helping fund research into better, more personalised ovarian cancer treatments and raising awareness of a disease that too often goes unnoticed until it's too late.
Their tribute to Nic is not only beautiful - it's powerful, meaningful, and it's already making a difference.
To everyone who has donated, shared, listened or supported this family - thank you. And to Colin Cara, Morgan, and all who loved Nic - your strength and dedication to making a difference is truly a special way to honour her memory. Thank you for making a difference for women everywhere.
