GreenAcres Walk In Her Name Step Challenge

30 March 2021

Having an insight into the devastating impact of bereavement for families who have lost women to ovarian cancer, the lovely team at GreenAcres Cemeteries & Ceremonial Parks decided to take part in our Walk In Her Name Step Challenge. Initially the team set a target of £2500, read on to find out how they more than doubled this figure.

Initially, as a team at GreenAcres Cemeteries & Ceremonial Parks, we wanted to take part in Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in March as we were saddened by the shocking statistics about the number of women who die from this disease. GreenAcres has seen first-hand the impact of bereavement on families who have lost women to ovarian cancer.

We run six beautiful parks set in tranquil woods and meadowland all designed to offer personalised funeral services and resting places. We aim to create a sanctuary for the living to connect, reflect and remember loved ones. Through conversations with the Fundraising Team, we found out about Walk in Her Name Step Challenge and soon realised that it gave us a unique opportunity to bring together all our colleagues and our special GreenAcres families.

This lead us to create the GreenAcres Family Team which embraces everyone from our CEO, to families who have been personally touched by ovarian cancer, to our GreenAcres Family fur babies…Freddie and Maisy!

The challenge also gave us the chance to think about our well-being as we headed into Spring. It gave our staff team the perfect reason to get out there and take their breaks in our beautiful parks, in the fresh air and soak up nature coming back to life after a tough Winter to support.

Ovarian Cancer Action made it so easy to set up our individual and team pages and to share updates throughout the challenge. The inspiring stories they have shared throughout the challenge given us the motivation to take those steps every day. We have been little bit competitive too, which has been fun! We also feel proud of the impact we have had as a team with our fundraising too – GreenAcres Family Team is currently no.3 on the leaderboard!

We were really inspired that the early diagnosis and pioneering research the Ovarian Cancer Action is driving, will transform the lives of women today and in the future. That was very close to our hearts thinking about the special women in our lives.

We have really enjoyed the team collaboration and focus that Walk in Her Name has given us. We would encourage organisations to join…we have more power together to raise awareness and save lives funding the next generation of ovarian cancer research.

GreenAcres Cemeteries & Ceremonial Parks have now raised an amazing £5437, see their progresss here! If you would like to get involved with fundraising for Ovarian Cancer Action, click here.
