Fantastic fundraisers - Summer 2022

20 September 2022

Fundraise OCAM

We are constantly amazed by the incredible things that you do to support our vital work. From dinosaur dress-up to go-karting glory, here are a few of the fantastic ways you have been fundraising for us recently.

Gail force wins for ovarian cancer

At the start of March, Sharon Jones and her family began their mission to raise as much as possible in memory of their much-loved sister, aunt and mum, Gail. Together, the family took on a dinosaur dress up walk, a teal party, a pub quiz and more, raising an incredible £5,700! The Canadian side of the family also got stuck in, raising funds for a Canadian ovarian cancer charity. Together, the international effort raised an impressive total of $20,000 for ovarian cancer research!

Phoebe’s star fundraiser

Phoebe Usher was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at just 22 years old. Thankfully, after successful treatment, she is now recovered and wanted to raise funds to support other women living with ovarian cancer. Her family supported her to organise an evening of boxing called ‘Star for the Night’. Local recruits trained up and were sponsored to take on the challenge – raising a whopping £7,080!

Joe is a kart above the rest

A keen go-karting fan, Joe Paterson decided to put his passion to a good cause and go-kart for a full 24 hours to raise funds for our work!Excitingly, his challenge went well, and he managed to break the world record for number of miles go karted in 12 hours! Is that’s not enough of an achievement, his his fundraising total of just over £3,000 is a fantastic record to us!

A quali-tea day

A big cheers to Lynn, who hosts a tea party every year in memory of her mum Eileen, who was a very keen baker. This summer's party has raised over £300.

Magnificent Marathon runner Jen shows what friends are for

The fantastic Jen, one of our 2022 London Marathon runners, is fundraising for us in memory of her friend’s mum Sharon. Sharon was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and sadly died five years ago. This year, Jen’s best friend (Sharon’s daughter) is getting married, and Jen wanted to raise funds for us in lieu of Sharon being able to attend the wedding.

Jen held an evening of fundraising complete with a raffle, entertainment and auction. It was a huge success, raising just over £2,000 on the evening! This also encouraged a few extra donations on her JustGiving page too, bringing her total to an incredible £5,000!
