11 Virtual Fundraising Ideas

01 April 2020

Living room workout

We've put together some great virtual fundraising ideas so you can continue to support Ovarian Cancer Action wherever you are.  Take your pick!

  • Now is a better time than ever to spread some love and positivity. Ask your friends and family for a small donation on social media in return for a personalised positivity post. It could be the things you love about them, a fond memory you shared, a funny anecdote or even a favourite photo of them – anything that will bring a smile. Set up a JustGiving page or Facebook Fundraiser so that people can donate easily.

  • If you or a loved one has a birthday or special occasion coming up, one way that you can still celebrate and show your loved ones that you care is by donating to a cause close to their heart. Here is how to set up a birthday fundraiser on JustGiving and Facebook and raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Action

  • Signed up for a race that has been postponed or cancelled? You can still complete a challenge by taking part in a virtual race. Find a Race and Running Woman have lots of virtual options to keep you motivated and active. Why not try the Local Landmarks Challenge virtual event? Run a solo half marathon around your local church, castle, park, statue or even post box! Anyone can take part, it costs £12 to enter and you’ll get a medal on completion.

  • Disappointed you’re missing your weekly pub quiz? Why not organise your own online! Come up with a series of fun quiz themes and questions and gather family and friends on Zoom - complete with your own food and drinks at home. Everyone can pay a small fee to your JustGiving page to join in the fun. It’s a perfect way to spend time together, even if you’re apart.

  • Create your own challenge at home, whether it's on a treadmill, up your stairs or in the garden. Pick a distance, share your progress (why not do a Facebook Live) and ask your followers to donate to your JustGiving page at the same time. You could even give your supporters a ‘wish list' e.g. ‘Donate £30 and I’ll complete an hour on the treadmill listening to Baby Shark on repeat!’ or 'donate to see me wear a silly outfit' – get creative!

  • Do you have a secret talent to share with your family and friends? Juggling, guitar playing, opera singing? Do your little ones love to perform? Organise a video call and host a virtual talent competition for your friends and family. Ask them to make a small donation to tune in. You could even re-enact your favourite play or TV show.

  • Got any clothes or items that you want to sell after the big spring clean? Why not fundraise for Ovarian Cancer Action by donating a percentage, or all, of the sale price?

  • Are you a fitness instructor? Star baker? Talented artist? If you have a special skill, share it with others by hosting a virtual class on Zoom. Ask people to donate to your JustGiving to attend. It’s a great way to pass the time and learn something new whilst supporting and raising awareness of ovarian cancer.

  • Donate what you would have spent on your commute over the last 3 months to Ovarian Cancer Action. Or you could donate your lunch money, those Pret sandwiches once a week add up!

  • Still waiting for the hairdressers to re-open? Why not let one of your family members or housemates shave it all off. Ask your friends to sponsor you for your bravery.

  • From Fortnight to Mario Kart, if you love gaming why not put your hobby to the test all whilst raising money for Ovarian Cancer Action? You can do this on your own or make it social by creating a competition with friends.
