Walking together for change: Women in Trading return to Walk in Her Name
One community walking in her name.
In 2025, members of Women in Trading took on Walk in Her Name and raised £2,345 for Ovarian Cancer Action. This year, they came back as a wider group and raised £3,396. More people took part. More stories were shared. More miles were walked side by side.
This is what happens when a community steps forward together.
Women in Trading was created to support, inspire, and empower those in trading roles in the media industry. Women remain underrepresented in both entry-level roles and senior positions. The network brings women together through mentoring, training and shared experience.
That focus on connection shaped how they approached Walk in Her Name. The challenge asks people to walk 100km across March, during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, turning everyday steps into something that supports research and raises awareness.
For Duri, a member of Women in Trading, this challenge is personal. Here she shares why Walk in Her Name was so important, as well as her tips for fundraising.
“I lost my mum to ovarian cancer in 2012. Taking part is a way of honouring her and carrying on her legacy. Across the month, each walk became part of that reflection. The distance, the time, the routine of stepping out each day created space to think, remember and take action.”

“After taking part in WIHN a few years ago with my team at work, I’m so pleased to now be able to bring together a network I’ve created with a cause I care so deeply about. It’s a group that already supports each other, so taking on a challenge like this together made sense.
Last year, a small number of committee members took part. This year, the invitation opened to the wider network, bringing in more people and more shared accountability.
I’ve always loved walking, so for me it felt like the perfect challenge – a meaningful way to come together, raise awareness, and support such an important cause.
Being part of something that supports that work makes the effort feel worthwhile.”

“To keep everyone motivated, the WhatsApp group made a big difference. People were sharing updates, cheering each other on and keeping each other going. There was always someone posting - whether it was a walk before work or at the end of the day. It kept the momentum going.
Support extended beyond the team. Donations from friends, colleagues and wider networks became part of the journey.
Every message and every donation reminded us why we were doing it.”

Having shared encouragement and accountability made Walk in Her Name even more enjoyable. I was proud of what I managed, but even more proud of what we did as a group.
Share why you’re doing it. When people understand your reason, they want to support you. Being part of a team changes the experience. You motivate each other, you stay accountable and you feel part of something the whole way through.”
Duri set out to walk 200km and finished at 184km, well beyond the 100km challenge target for the month.
Women in Trading showed what happens when a group commits to a shared goal. More people walked. More funds were raised. More conversations were started.
Walk In Her Name challenges people to walk 100km across March for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. It is open to every team, network and workplace.
Bring your colleagues together. Set a shared goal. Make space for each other to take part.
Because when you walk as a team, every step goes further.

Ovarian Cancer Action funds research focused on improving early detection and developing more effective treatments. Many people are diagnosed at a later stage because symptoms can be difficult to recognise. Research that improves how and when ovarian cancer is identified can change outcomes for women and give families more time.
