Our funded research projects

Ovarian Cancer Action has invested £12.3 million in research projects since we began in 2006. Read about the science we're funding now.

Next generation research

We fund research that focuses on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of ovarian cancer because improvements in each of these three areas will transform how long and how well women will live.

Find out more about the projects we’re funding – the next generation of research that will prevent ovarian cancer, catch it early, and treat it effectively.

Our research strategy

Effective treatments for ovarian cancer

Research into ovarian cancer treatment is crucial because it improves the chances of survival for patients. Ovarian cancer is often detected at a late stage, making it harder to treat effectively. By studying this cancer, scientists can develop new and better treatments that target cancer cells more precisely and cause fewer side effects. This research also helps doctors understand why the cancer sometimes returns and how to prevent it. With these advancements, patients have a better chance of recovery and a longer, healthier life.

Early detection of ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is often found too late when it is harder to treat. By researching better ways to detect the cancer early, doctors can start treatment sooner, which can lead to better outcomes and higher survival rates. Early detection also means that less aggressive treatments might be needed, reducing side effects and improving the quality of life for patients

Ovarian cancer prevention

Research into preventing ovarian cancer is very important because the disease can be deadly, especially when it's found late. Even after treatment, ovarian cancer can come back, which makes it hard to manage over time. By studying how ovarian grows and what causes it, scientists can discover ways to find the cancer early.

Ovarian cancer research starts and ends with you

Our Ovarian Cancer Action Research Network is a nationwide, virtual group of people affected by ovarian cancer who use their experience of the disease to help shape ovarian cancer research. Take a look at how you can get involved with ovarian cancer research by joining the network.
