What is walk 100 Miles in October?
Walk 100 Miles in October is a virtual fundraising challenge in support of Ovarian Cancer Action.
Take on the challenge to walk 100 miles throughout the month of October, at your own pace and in your own time.
By joining this challenge, you'll help raise vital awareness and funds for Ovarian Cancer Action.
Ovarian cancer is often overlooked, and more research is urgently needed. Your support will help fund life-saving research and improve outcomes for all women affected by the disease.
Where does it take place?
Anywhere you like! There’s no set location for Walk 100 Miles in October, you can take part wherever suits you best.
Whether you’re fitting in shorter walks around your daily routine or planning longer strolls with friends and family in your local area, every mile counts. You’re free to walk your way and at your own pace.
Just be sure to stay safe while walking. Stick to well-lit, familiar routes ( especially if you’re walking alone) and aim to walk during daylight hours whenever possible. If you do head out after dark, wear reflective clothing and consider carrying a lightweight flashlight.
Is there a registration fee?
Nope, registration is completely free!
And as a thank you for joining #TeamOCA, you’ll receive a free t-shirt when you raise your first £10.
It's our way of celebrating your commitment and helping you show your support with pride as you take on the challenge.

Walk 100 Miles in October
Participation
Do I have to walk the entire 100 miles in one go?
Nope! You have the whole month of October to complete the challenge at your own pace. Feel free to break the 100 miles into smaller, manageable walks that fit your schedule
Does it have to be 100 miles?
We encourage everyone to aim for the full 100 miles during October, but your health and safety come first, so don’t push yourself too hard. If you’d rather walk a shorter distance, that’s completely fine. And if you’re feeling ambitious, you’re more than welcome to go beyond 100 miles!
Do I have to walk, or can I run?
You can do whatever feels best for you, walk, run, or mix both! The important thing is to keep moving and enjoy the challenge.
How can I track my distance?
We recommend using apps like Strava to track and share your progress. You can create a free account at https://www.strava.com/ and join our dedicated
100 Miles in October group, a great way to connect with fellow participants and stay motivated!
Alternatively, many smartphones come with built-in fitness or health apps that can track your distance just as well.
I am finding walking in memory of my loved one difficult, where can I find more information about bereavement support?
We understand that this can be a challenging time, and it’s natural to experience a wide range of emotions after losing someone close. Support is available to help you through your journey.
You can find more information and resources on bereavement support on our website.
I cannot do October; can I choose another date?
We encourage everyone to take part during October so we can come together as a community, supporting and motivating each other in memory and celebration of everyone who has been affected by ovarian cancer.
However, if October doesn’t work for you, it’s absolutely okay to take a little longer to complete your distance.
