Derrick: My legacy is to give hope to any woman impacted by this horrible disease.

Derrick_Legacy

Derrick lost his wife Sue after a four year struggle with ovarian cancer, he shares his story and why he believes Ovarian Cancer Action are the key to changing the future for women with ovarian cancer.

“Having witnessed my 'other half's' four year struggle with ovarian cancer, we talked of death only just before her premature (52yrs) passing.

Just before she died, my wife said that if I were to give any funds to a charity, she would prefer that the charity be focused on finding a solution to this cancer. I’ve subsequently seen for myself that Ovarian Cancer Action is striving to do exactly that.

I believe OCA (Ovarian Cancer Action) has a dedicated team made up of driven, energised individuals, actively working together with vigour, enthusiasm and determination to achieve the well thought through short term objectives against ovarian cancer.

I have seen at close hand what this cancer strain can do to a fit loved one - and shared her emotional path in trying to find a solution to the cancer, and of course the side effects of chemotherapy treatments. It's not much fun!

I hope that my legacy assists OCA in continuing its step by step focused approach to achieve its well thought through objectives, ensuring all connected professionals and interested parties involved in supporting a woman identified with ovarian cancer, are working together.

I certainly don't underestimate the challenge here, but the work being done in this area will surely bring hope to those caught up in this emotional roller coaster journey".
