Great North Run
The Great North Run is loved by all who take part in its famously warm northeast welcome to both experienced and amateur runners. Runners set off from Newcastle towards South Shields, greeted by stunning coastal views. The carnival atmosphere of the cheering crowds and live music from start to finish, will help you to power all the way to that finish line. Imagine crossing that finish line to a hero’s welcome from the crowd, proudly wearing your medal, knowing you’ve achieved something fantastic fitness-wise - and something even more incredible for people living with ovarian cancer. A memory you will never forget!
Drew, who took on the Great North Run for Ovarian Cancer Action went from running newbie to half marathoner, and loved his experience:
"I took part in the Great North Run for Ovarian Cancer Action, my first half marathon, at the ripe old age of 45. I run to keep fit and keep off the beer belly, but also to stay healthy. Family life is busy but since taking up running, I am fitter than I have ever been — and I can keep up with my wee ones!
It was an epic run, crossing the Tyne Bridge was amazing... kind folk handed out sweets and ice lollies, to keep you going when you started to flag. It was an amazing day and I will never forget it."

What does my fundraising support?
Your funds will help us to make faster progress towards making ovarian cancer a survivable disease. Every day, 12 women die of ovarian cancer. Your support will mean we are able to fund research that focuses on the prevention and treatment of ovarian cancer, transforming how long and how well women will live. Your fundraising will also help us to raise awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer so people know what to look out for, which saves lives.
Can you support me to fundraise?
Our friendly fundraising team are here to support you with your fundraising every step of the way. We can provide advice, materials and ideas to help you smash your fundraising target. We allow our runners 4-6 weeks after the event to reach the minimum fundraising target, so there is plenty of time to collect sponsorship and raise as much as possible to support our vital work.
I think the Great North Run is quite far from me
The event is a fantastic excuse to go away for the weekend. There are lots of thing to see in Newcastle and Gateshead, including the Gateshead coast, Newcastle Castle and the Angel of the North! The run itself is a unique and fantastic way to enjoy the city.
