Jnetics announces subsidised Jewish BRCA testing programme

In 2024, NHS England launched a free, dedicated at-home testing service to identify individuals of Jewish ancestry who may have a higher risk of inheriting a BRCA gene fault.

Registrations for the pilot programme closed on 31st October 2025, though people who have already registered can return their kits until the end of November 2026.

In June 2026, NHS England announced that they are planning to make the programme permanent, however this won’t be in place until 2027/2028.

In the meantime, Jnetics have announced a subsidised testing programme, allowing eligible people who are keen to be tested sooner to access BRCA testing through a home saliva test for £295. This is significantly lower than the standard cost of private genetic testing, and includes access to an independent genetic counsellor throughout the testing journey plus advice and support.

This testing is available for people:

  • Over the age of 18
  • With at least one Jewish grandparent of any Jewish ethnicity
  • Who are residents of the UK.

This programme is for people without a family history of cancer. If you do have a family history of cancer, you should use our Hereditary Cancer Risk Checker to explore your eligibility for genetic testing, and speak to your GP about being referred to your local genetics clinic.

Alternatively, it’s possible to register to be the first to hear when the free NHS England Jewish testing programme reopens. See here for more information.
