Run Manchester marathon for Ovarian Cancer Action

Join Team Ovarian Cancer Action for the UK’s second-largest marathon. It's a high-energy, high-impact race through the vibrant streets of Greater Manchester. One of the biggest in Europe, this iconic event brings together runners from all over the world.

The Manchester Marathon route

Take on 26.2 fast, flat miles through Greater Manchester’s buzzing neighbourhoods. From the city centre to Stretford, Altrincham and back, you’ll be powered by live music, loud crowds, and unbeatable Mancunian spirit.

The total elevation gain for Manchester Marathon is roughly 132-156 meters (approx. 436–512 feet). The course offers a fast, road-based route with minimal, gradual inclines, most notably around Altrincham, making it popular for personal bests and first-time runners alike.

Manchester Marathon FAQs

We've answered some of your top questions about the Manchester Marathon below. For any other questions, please get in touch at fundraising@ovarian.org.uk or 020 7380 1730. Our friendly team is happy to help.

What support will I receive?

All runners will receive:

  • Access to training plans for all levels from the running experts at the Manchester Marathon.
  • A free Ovarian Cancer Action tech running vest – so you can show your support to everyone whilst you train and on the day.
  • Bespoke fundraising support from our dedicated team – materials, ideas, and advice to help you smash your fundraising target.
  • Improved fitness levels and the knowledge you have helped us to get closer to making ovarian cancer a survivable disease.

Is the Manchester Marathon only for experienced runners?

The Manchester Marathon is not only for experienced runners. It is famously welcoming to participants of all abilities, including first-time marathoners, charity runners, and elite athletes.

Due to its flat course and gradual incline, Manchester Marathon is a popular choice for beginners looking to complete their first 26.2-mile race.

What does my fundraising support?

By running with us, you will be joining a passionate and unstoppable community running to fund life-saving ovarian cancer research. You will not just be taking on an iconic marathon; you will be part of changing the future for all women.

Can you support me to fundraise?

Our friendly fundraising team is here to support you with your fundraising every step of the way. We can provide advice, materials, and ideas to help you smash your fundraising target. We allow our runners 4-6 weeks after the event to reach the minimum fundraising target, so there is plenty of time to collect sponsorship and raise as much as possible to support our vital work.

I think that the Manchester Marathon is too far away from me

The Marathon weekender is a fantastic excuse to organise a few days away in the North, exploring the nightlife of Canal Street and the recently restored Castlefield Viaduct. Make the most of your adventure and take in the historic Northern quarter or one of the huge selection of museums and art galleries before the big day.

How do I pay in my money?

After all the hard work you’ve put into fundraising, it’s important that the money you raise supports the critical research that will transform futures for everyone affected by ovarian cancer.
