Head of Research

Ovarian Cancer Action (OCA) is the UK’s ovarian cancer research charity. From funding scientists on the front line, to mobilising millions of people across the UK to take action - we’re driven by a vision of a world without ovarian cancer and a belief that we can create a better future.

OCA is looking to recruit a part-time, experienced Head of Research to manage its research portfolio at a busy and exciting moment. They will be part of a small but energetic team who are passionate about taking action against ovarian cancer.

With the support of the Chief Executive and the international Scientific Advisory Board, the Head of Research will take overall responsibility for OCA’s research funding programme.

They will manage OCA’s current research portfolio and ensure delivery of the strategic aims of the charity in research in line with a developing research strategy.

They will need to be an excellent communicator, needing to liaise closely with researchers and build and maintain relationships with other external research contacts. 

They will support the charity at a wide range of levels and work with members of the team to ensure OCA can make the most impact with its research. They will maintain and develop the charity’s reputation as the UK’s ovarian cancer research charity.

They will have a scientific background, excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong research management skills.

Finally they will be passionate about creating a better future for women with ovarian cancer.

£45,000- £50,000 salary pro rata (3 days a week) – Fixed term (length to be discussed)

Fundraising Database Intern

We are looking for a Fundraising Database Intern to work on a project to ensure that our fundraising income records are up to date and recorded centrally on the charity’s database.

It will involve data entry work for a minimum of 3 days a week and will involve the intern using their initiative and investigating discrepancies when needed. The Intern will also work with the fundraising team on other projects as well as other departments for the maximum 2 days a week including digital communications, press, healthcare and operations, developing a full and all round understanding of the charity.

Join our Internship Programme

As an intern with Ovarian Cancer Action, you will gain valuable experience within a rapidly growing team. You will be given projects to work on across numerous departments within the charity including Fundraising, Communications, Marketing, Finance and general office management. Our Internships provide you with the skills needed to kick start your career in the charity sector.

We ask that our Interns volunteer for a minimum of 3 days a week, during standard office hours, for a minimum of 12 weeks. You will be based in our London office, but will also have the opportunity to volunteer at events around London outside standard office hours such as fundraising or awareness raising events.

Our Internships are unpaid, however as an intern you will benefit from:

  • travel expenses to and from your placement and for lunch to a maximum value
  • supervision, coaching and support throughout the internship
  • any appropriate training required
  • advice and support on writing your CV and application forms, as well as interview skills
  • increased confidence
  • access to our internal job vacancy list
  • a reference on satisfactory completion of the volunteer internship
