Although we won’t be gathering in person, there are still lots of ways you join in on the fun from wherever you are and continue to support Ovarian Cancer Action. We believe that with your help, we can lessen the impact of coronavirus on our work as we continue in our mission to create a better future for women with ovarian cancer. Thank you for your support during this challenging time.

1. Spread Positivity

Now is a better time than ever to spread some love and positivity. Ask your friends and family for a small donation on social media in return for a personalised positivity post. It could be the things you love about them, a fond memory you shared, a funny anecdote or even a favourite photo of them – anything that will bring a smile. Set up a JustGiving page or Facebook Fundraiser so that people can donate easily.

2. Celebrate a special occasion

If you or a loved one has a birthday or special occasion coming up, your plans might have been put on hold. One way that you can still celebrate and show your loved ones that you care, is by donating to a cause close to their heart. JustGiving and Facebook have quick easy ways that you can raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Action for your birthday. Here is how to set up a birthday fundraiser on JustGiving and Facebook.

3. Take part in a virtual race

Signed up for a race that has been postponed or cancelled? You can still complete a challenge by taking part in a virtual race. Virtual race providers such as Find a Race and Running Woman have lots of virtual options to keep motivated and active. You can even sign up for a Unicorn challenge which includes a unicorn medal – perfect for getting the kids (or the big kids!) involved.

Why not try the Local Landmarks Challenge? The London Landmarks Half Marathon have created a virtual event so that runners can still take part. Run a solo half marathon around your local landmarks – it could be your local church, castle, park, statue or even post box! Anyone can take part, it costs £12 to enter and you’ll get a medal for completing your challenge.

4. Quiz time online

Disappointed you’re missing your weekly pub quiz? Why not organise your own and move it online! Come up with a series of fun quiz themes and questions and gather family and friends to log into a group video session on Zoom - complete with your own food and drinks at home. Everyone can pay a small fee to your JustGiving page to join in the fun. It’s a perfect way to spend time together, even if you’re apart.

5. Create your own indoor challenge

If you have a treadmill or other gym equipment at home (don’t worry if not, your stairs or garden will do!)  you can create your own challenge. Pick a distance (it could be a 10k, the distance between two places, the height of Big Ben) and stream your challenge live on social media. That way people can check in on you to watch your progress and cheer you on. Share the link to your JustGiving page so people can easily donate while they watch. To raise even more you could give your supporters a ‘wish list’. For example ‘Donate £30 and I’ll complete an hour on the treadmill listening to Baby Shark on repeat!’ or your friends could donate to see you wear a silly outfit – get creative!

6. You’ve got the X Factor

Do you have a secret talent to share with your family and friends? Juggling, guitar playing, opera singing? Do your little ones love to perform? Organise a video call and put on a show for your friends and family. Ask them to make a small donation to tune in and watch the show. You could host a talent competition, re-enact your favourite play or TV show, or even hold your own virtual Eurovision party in place of the real thing.

7. Amazon Smile
Support Ovarian Cancer Action while shopping on Amazon. When you shop, amazon will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price to your chosen charity. Simply go to smile.Amazon.co.uk, select Ovarian Cancer Action - it’s as easy as that!

8. Host an online class

Are you a fitness instructor? Star baker? Talented artist? If you have a special skill, share it with others by hosting a virtual class on Zoom. People can attend by donating to your JustGiving page in return for the zoom link and joining info. It’s a great way to pass the time and learn something new whilst supporting and raising awareness of ovarian cancer.

Stay connected
Make sure to tell everyone about your fundraising by sharing updates, taking photos and posting videos of what you’ve been up to. We’d love to hear about the creative ways you’ve been fundraising online and see some snaps of where your daily solo runs or cycles have taken you.
